Analyzing Chemistry Students’ Reasoning by Transferring a Philosophic PerspectIVE on Mechanisms to Organic Chemistry Education – ACTIVE Mechanisms. In my doctoral project I want to analyze students' mechanistic explanations in organic chemistry in different learning stages. My first goal is to propose a theoretical framework for organic mechanistic explanation. My second goal is to characterize mechanistic explanations students generate in organic chemistry classes. The methodological approach is to use semi-structured think-aloud interviews while students are engaged in generating explanations about different organic mechanistic steps.
